Ellen V. Hardy, formerly of Canton, MA, passed away peacefully at the Worcester Health Center on December 31, 2017 at the age of 89 years old.
Her family was at her side through the last days of her life and will miss her dearly. The wife of Herbert N. Hardy who predeceased Ellen, and the loving mother of William Hardy, Brian Hardy, and Judith Leavey, she is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Originally known as Ellen Smith, the daughter of John and Rose Smith of Milton, MA, she grew up at the Paddocks horse stable in Milton with her six brothers and sisters. Known throughout the area as an accomplished horsewoman, she showed hunter/jumpers, was a judge at horse shows, attended fox hunts, and was one of the original founders of the Ponkapoag Pony Club in Milton, MA.
She will be missed by her family and her many friends, and we look forward to bring reunited with her in heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ. Ellen's family deeply appreciates the loving care received by the staff of the Worcester Health Center where she spent the last ten years of her life and to the Beacon Hospice team, both of whom made her last days very comfortable.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St Newton Corner on Wed Jan 3 from 10- 11 AM followed by a funeral service in the Newton Cemetery Chapel 791 Walnut St. Newton Centre at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Beacon Hospice.
